Landlord Deadlines publishes free guides and tools about the law for landlords in England, and late-payment rules for UK freelancers. People make real decisions with them, so we hold ourselves to the standards below.
1. Not legal advice
Everything we publish is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. It explains what the law and official guidance say. It can't take account of your own tenancy, contract, finances or circumstances.
For a decision that matters, check the official source we link to, and consider advice from a solicitor, accountant, or an organisation such as Citizens Advice or your landlord association.
We are independent. We are not affiliated with GOV.UK, HMRC, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, or the Bank of England.
2. Where our facts come from
We use primary and official sources:
- legislation.gov.uk, for the law itself
- GOV.UK guidance from government departments and HMRC
- official campaign sites run by government, such as the "Renting is changing" hub
- the Bank of England, for interest rates
- the Health and Safety Executive, for gas safety
We don't rely on blogs, forums, other landlord sites or AI-generated summaries for any legal fact. Where a rule has not been finalised, or official guidance hasn't been published yet, we say so. Every page names its sources and links to them, so you can check what we say.
3. How we check and date our pages
- Every guide and tool shows the date we last checked it against GOV.UK.
- We re-check every legal date, threshold and figure at least every three months. We also check whenever the government announces a change, for example a new commencement date for the Renters' Rights Act, a new Making Tax Digital threshold or a Bank Rate change that affects late-payment interest.
- Our calculators follow the rules exactly as the source states them. Before a tool goes live, and after any change, we test it against worked examples, including edge cases such as leap years, month ends and dates on a threshold.
- Our paid products carry the date their legal content was checked. When the law changes, we update them, and buyers can download the new version free.
4. Corrections
If you think something we've published is wrong or out of date, please email [email protected] and tell us the page and what you think is wrong. A link to the source helps. We will:
- acknowledge your message within 5 working days
- correct a factual error in a date, deadline, figure or calculation as soon as we've confirmed it, normally within 2 working days
- add a dated correction note to the page when the error could have affected someone's decision, such as a wrong deadline or amount. Typos and wording changes are corrected without a note.
- if the error is in a paid product, publish a corrected version and tell buyers how to download it
We don't change a page's "last checked" date unless we have actually re-checked it.
5. Advertising and products
We sell a small number of our own templates and spreadsheets. Our free tools and guides are written to be useful on their own. Product mentions are clearly marked, and we don't recommend anything we don't sell or haven't checked.
We don't publish fake reviews, invented customer numbers or false deadlines to push sales. Prices on our pages include UK VAT, which our checkout partner adds at checkout.
